Exploration of light through photography

Took the old camera out in the garden and explored the lighting in different areas and here are some of the photographs I took.

Trip to the Stables.

My gorgeous girlfriend Shelley (www.ikoss.blogspot.com) invited me along for a trip to the stables where she keeps her Horses and I decided to take my old Samsung pro815 digital stills camera with me. Here are my favourites out of the bunch of pictures I took.

I also took some more photographs exploring light in my garden which I will upload shortly.

Behind the Scenes of Real Eyes.

Real Eyes is a short film directed by Shona Singleton and filmed by Tom Lee as pat of their final year projects for the TV and Film degree we are all coming to the end of. I was asked to tag along and film a behind the scenes feature and I also lent a hand whenever I could. It was a nice change from acting as the primary cinematographer on a film with freedom to film what I wanted and next to no pressure. I also enjoyed having the opportunity to try out editing the footage which was where the stress kicked in due to an approaching deadline. Over a couple of nights I managed to put something together which I am quite happy with so if you've got some time to spare check it out. (The music choice was not mine but it does fit the piece fairly well)

Macro for Ebay

A few weeks ago my brother Steve asked me to take some photographs of different pieces of jewellery for an ebay shop he is starting up. I jumped at the opportunity to take some interesting shots testing the macro capability of my old fixed lens Samsung pro815 digital camera. The camera which has been in it's case for a while now did not disappoint. I was very happy with the images I collected considering I used just natural light. Here are some examples which I believe are as good as any other ebay shop photographs.

If they all sell, who knows maybe there will be a share of the profits coming my way.

Colour Correction for '99 Forever'

After shooting '99 Forever' directed by Olivia Young I gave her the footage to put together a first edit which she then gave back to me to colour correct. Using manipulation of the camera and lights we filmed all the shots with a warm feeling to set the mood for the film. This did not eradicate the need for colour correction however as some of the shots needed to be slightly altered to help them match. Once I had matched all the shots to a standard I was happy with I then played with 'master effects' covering a large number of shots at the same time to help improve the visual mood of the film.

Colour correcting on Adobe After Effects CS5

Before/After - I decided the original footage was too red in this shot.

Before/After - I added more warmth and colour into this shot.

Before/After - I intensified the colours in this shot and increased the contrast.

Overall I am happy with my colour corrected version of the film and I hope Olivia the director is too.

Unrest Screenshots

Here are some screen shots from the short film Unrest directed by Adam Hill. In this project I shared the cinematographer credit with Tom Lee, dividing the role by interior and exterior shots. Adam decided to use two cinematographers to emphasize the different states of reality. Tom filmed the interior shots which are the main protagonist's subconscious and I filmed the exterior shots which  provide the basis for the story through establishing shots and flashbacks. I don't want to give the story away just yet, I'm not sure how secretive Adam the director wants to be. However upon receiving the footage yesterday I've decided to put up a few screen shots for you to take a look at.

These screenshots are straight from the original footage before any kind of colour correction and I'm quite pleased with the way they have turned out, I just hope Adam can put together a decent edit. I'm going out filming the last bits today so wish me luck!
